Family reunification is one of the grounds for a residence permit in Slovenia. It lets close relatives live legally with the main applicant, who already holds a valid residence permit or permanent residence.

The main applicant must have stable income, health insurance and accommodation in Slovenia for all family members.

Conditions for a reunification permit

The applicant's period of residence

As a rule — at least 1 year in Slovenia on a valid permit. Exception: reunification is possible straight away on an EU Blue Card or with an EU citizen.

Documents required

  • Proof of the family relationship (marriage or birth certificate)
  • Housing and funds to support the whole family
  • Health insurance for all family members
  • Proof of the main applicant's legal status

The process takes on average 2–4 months — depending on how busy the authorities are and whether the documents are filed correctly.
